Surface Piercing!
T.L.C. stands for tender loving care, and that is exactly what your new piercing is going to need.
Slacking off on your aftercare or using harmful products will only prolong your discomfort and the healing process.
Please keep your saline solution in an air tight container in the refrigerator at all times. This helps to ensure the solution stays sterile.
- Clean your hands thoroughly with antibacterial soap.
- Dip a cotton ear tip or cotton wool ball into the solution
- Using the saline soaked cotton tip or ball gently clean around the area and remove any “crusties” that may have built up. (“crusties” are a normal part of healing, it is just dried puss. However, if the puss is a dark yellow to green colour, you have developed an infection, so keep an eye on the colour. clear or off-white-yellow are normal)
- Dry area using another (dry and clean) cotton ear tip or cotton ball.
- Dispose of both saline-saturated and dry cotton ear tips/balls. Your piercing will take approximately 6-8 weeks to heal, depending on your body and the area.
Oral Piercing!
Wash hands thoroughly before touching the piercing.
An antiseptic mouthwash (such as rivacol or cepacaine) is recommended to swish in the mouth for the first 2-3 days. This aids in suppressing the swelling and numbs the pain. Sucking on ice will also help.
Reduce the intake of hot beverages, spicy foods and tobacco (tobacco is a poison) for the first week. Rinse mouth at least 4-5 times a day with an antibacterial mouth wash, especially after eating or smoking
The piercing jewellery can be changed once the piercing has healed.
